SoapBox – A Transformers Podcast

In 2017 as part of Festival of Change, I put forward a proposal to interview different museum and heritage professionals at the Museums Association conference in Manchester and record them for a podcast. This was done as part of the Museums Association Transformers Influence programme.

With the proposal, I aimed to source content from my peers by getting them to discuss projects they were working on and issues that mattered to them. My proposal was accepted and I spent time arranging people to interview.

Over the course of two days, I spent time interviewing Sally Lewis, Shaz Hussain, Tríona White Hamilton, Tricia Hall, Maura McKee, Rana Ibrahim, Louise Thompson, Sacha Coward and Joe Sullivan. I would like to thank these individuals for their time at the conference and for offering to essentially be my guinea pigs for this project.

I was stepping out from behind the keyboard, somewhere where I am most comfortable, and interviewing people who I had, in some instances, never met before. I am not a natural interviewer, and the equipment I had was basic at best. I hope that these interviews captured the authenticity of the conference, as well as the issues that mattered to people as well as highlighting the project they were working on.

Putting the podcast together has been a bit of a learning curve for myself, having never spent time with audio editing software, nor having podcasted before. I hope I have done it justice.
